Standardization is work to reach common solutions. Standardization
is done in co-operation between representatives from manufactures,
users, traders, consumers etc.
The purpose with standards is to create a common platform to work
from, where for example everyone knows the meaning of different
concepts, have a uniform procedure or have a definied minimum
requirement.
The work with standardization is usually performed in the technical
committes, workgroups or project where participants in the project
are coming from interested companies, organizations, authorities etc.
The standardization is today an international matter. Experts are
participating actively in international standardization to get through
the view points of their organisations and create the technical standards
which will support development of communication in the future.
Gunnar Hellström from Omnitor contributes to the international work
in accessibility standardization in the communication area. Most work
has been done in the International telecommunication union, ITU (http://www.itu.int)
Part of the work is done in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force, http://www.ietf.org) and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, http://www.etsi.org).
Guidelines for Sign Language in the web
is an area where guidelines are needed. Draft guidelines prepared for entry to CEN/ISSS and W3C WAI.
